EMERGENCY services have closed a road after a car flipped onto its roof this afternoon.

Police and ambulance crews rushed to Station Road in Netley today following reports of a crash.

The Blue Kia Picanto had flipped and landed on its roof.

A woman in her 70s suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

A witness has explained that the accident happened near to the Station Road junction with Denzel Avenue, and added that the road is closed until the incident is cleared.

A spokesperson from Hampshire constabulary said: "“We were called at 10.17am to Station Road, Netley, following reports of a collision involving two vehicles, which saw one of them overturn.

“The driver of the overturned vehicle, a woman in her 70s, sustained serious injuries.

“We are investigating the circumstances so any witnesses can contact us on 101 or report online, quoting reference number 0459 of today's date.”

A spokesperson from South Central Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 10:20 to Station Road, Netley to a collision involving two vehicles.  

"We sent to the scene an ambulance officer, ambulance crew and Hazard Area Response Team (HART) they were assessing and treating one patient.  

"Following assessment and treatment at the scene the patient was taken University Hospital Southampton."
