CIVIC chiefs could review the redevelopment plans for a seafront cafe after tenants unveiled a new design for the site.

BCP Council already has planning permission for a like-for-like rebuild of the Beach House Cafe premises at Mudeford Sandbank.

The local authority is obliged to deliver the replacement after the former building was destroyed by a fire in November 2018.

However, as reported, the leaseholders have revealed an alternative plan, which they said would make a "better use of the space".

Project Beach House has sought the views of residents for their "visually more attractive" building.

When approached by the Daily Echo for comment on the alternative plan, a BCP Council spokesperson said: “The current project timeline for commencing the construction of the Beach House is planned to start in September 2022, and this date is based upon delivering the basic like-for-like design which gained planning permission in October 2021.

"This will potentially be reviewed if new planning permission is sought and obtained by the tenants following their own consultation.

“BCP Council is supportive of the tenants ambition to consider enhanced plans for the Beach House Café, and we welcome the online consultation they have initiated. This consultation was implemented with our full knowledge and support.

"A further meeting is planned with the tenants at the end of this month to discuss any implications, financial or otherwise, that a change to the plans might create.”

Rich Slater, project manager for Project Beach House, said the team had pushing to make progress on plans since the former site was gutted by the fire.

He told the Daily Echo: "This gives us a chance to go completely back to a blank piece of paper on how do we make the best use of the site.

"We want as much feedback as possible. The more we get the more we can get a design everybody likes."

Mr Slater said if the alternative obtains planning permission, the team will sit down and negotiate with the local authority over the situation with which plan should be progressed.
