AFTER eight nights and hundreds of searching volunteers, a missing dog has finally been reunited with its owner who says she is “absolutely overwhelmed”.

A chocolate Cockapoo called Paddington went missing on Boxing Day in Canford Heath after running away during a walk.

His concerned owner Beth Paine, who was in London celebrating Christmas at the time, issued social media appeals and soon a Facebook group was organised – with more than 9,500 members – in an attempt to locate the seven-month-old puppy.

During an afternoon walk in the heathlands on December 26, Paddington’s lead became entangled with those of other dogs. A dog sitter then untied the Cockapoo’s lead to untangle the knot, only for Paddington to run away.

An Echo article on the appeal was shared more than 3,000 times by concerned readers.

Following numerous sightings, failed capture attempts and even a drone search, Paddington was eventually found having made its way to Canford Magna Garden Centre where he was lured by two “heroes” who recognised the pooch from the appeals.

An emotional Beth wrote to the thousands of search members on Facebook: “I am absolutely overwhelmed to tell you all that Paddington is home. There [were] numerous sightings of him this morning and [he] decided to cross a busy main road and head into Canford Magna Garden Centre for a coffee.

“Thank you so so much to the two heroes who cornered him and lured him in with food.

“His tail is wagging and he has been to the vets for a thorough check over. Next is a big rest and lots of food and as soon as he’s ready.

“On a serious note, I cannot honestly believe the help, support, donations and love [from] our trusted search team.

“A million thank yous to everyone. I will never forget any of you for your selflessness.”
