AN application for six camping pods on a fishing lake at Mannington, Wimborne, has been lodged with Dorset Council for planning consent.

The owners of The Croft at Burts Lane, say the timber clad and double-glazed pods are for use by fishermen. each coming with a parking space.

An agent’s letter says that the lake, which covers just under an acre, is of particular interest to anglers because of its stock of specimen carp, bream and tench, which are more difficult to catch with keen fishermen prepared to stay by the lakeside for days to make a catch.

Each of the pods would be 6x4metres, facing onto the lake with space for a camp bed and a sheltered space to eat.

Their use would be limited to those who purchase a ticket to fish the lake: “Feedback from people who have fished the lake in recent months suggests that the camping pods would be well used by people who live locally, as well as by people coming from slightly further afield.

"It is suggested that the average stay is likely to be two nights, but this would vary between fishermen simply using the camping pod in conjunction with a day ticket up to week long stays,” said a supporting document with the application.

Holt Parish Council have already considered the application and have raised no objection.

The application, Dorset Council reference 2021/04317 is open for public comment until January 4.
