SEARCH efforts are underway to find a missing puppy who ran away during a Boxing Day walk in Canford Heath.

The owner of a chocolate Cockapoo named Paddington says she has had “not much sleep” after her dog ran away during a walk in the heathlands.

Westbourne resident Beth Paine travelled to London on Boxing Day, leaving puppy Paddington with a dog boarding home service while she was away.

However, during an afternoon walk in the heathlands, Paddington’s lead became entangled with those of other dogs. The dog sitter then untied the cockerpoo’s lead to untangle the knot, only for Paddington to run away in the direction of the Canford Recycling Centre.

The dog has not been seen since.

Following this, dozens of residents have trawled through the heath area in a bid to find Paddington – who turns seven months old tomorrow (December 28).

One resident set up a dog-friendly trap with a scented toy, and another will fly a drone over the area this afternoon in a bid to find the “anxious” dog.

Owner Beth told the Echo: “I really want to say a big thank you to those who are looking. We’re so grateful. I’ve never been in this position before and I didn’t get much sleep last night.

“I don’t drive so I’ll need to get a train back to Bournemouth. But even if I do, the latest I’ll get back is half past five and it will be pitch black. As soon as I get back, I’ll be out looking.

“But from the bottom of our hearts, we’re so grateful for everyone who’s looking.”

Beth added it is unlikely Paddington would walk home, given the distance, age of the dog and lack of knowledge of the area – having predominantly walked around Bournemouth’s Lower Gardens area.

Dorset Police have been notified.
