There is disruption on the roads around Westbourne currently as fire crews battle a building fire.

More than 60 firefighters are currently at the scene of the blaze in Poole Road.

As fire crews from Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service tackle the fire, roads have been closed.

Westbourne fire road closures

Poole Road is currently closed as a result of the fire.

The road is closed in both directions between Queens Road and the B3066 (St Michaels Roundabout).

Congestion is also building up around the area as a result of the fire.

Drivers and the public are being asked to avoid the area.

Westbourne fire travel disruption

Several bus services have been diverted as a result of the closures.

A Morebus spokesman said: "Due to a building fire closing Poole Road m1/m2/16/U4 services are diverting between Poole Hill and Grosvenor Road Westbourne.

 

"Please see website for full details. This may cause some delays to our services.

"Sorry for any inconvenience caused."

Westbourne fire: what we know so far

A fire service spokesman said: "We were called at 7.12am to a roof fire at a block of flats on Poole Road, Bournemouth.

"We have crews in attendance from Westbourne, Springbourne, Redhill Park, Christchurch (x2), Poole (x3), Ferndown, Ringwood, Wimborne, New Milton and Burley, together with the aerial ladder platform from Westbourne and a support appliance from Hamworthy – approx. 60 firefighters.

 

"Residents are being moved to safety."

A spokesman for Dorset Police added: "We received a report at 7.19am from the fire service in relation to a property fire in Poole Road, Bournemouth. Officers have attended to assist with putting road closures in place and evacuating the premises.

"They remain at the scene and we do not have any further update at this time."
