Police say the driver of the van was uninjured.

Officers are appealing for witnesses and anyone with relevant dashcam footage to come forward.

Police Constable Mark Burton, of the traffic unit, said: “We understand both the motorcycle and van were travelling along the A31 from Bere Regis toward the roundabout when the collision occurred.

“I would ask anyone who witnessed the incident, or saw either vehicle being driven prior to the collision, to please contact Dorset Police.

“The A31 remains closed while emergency services respond to this incident and I would like to thank motorists for their patience and understanding and ask them to seek alternative routes to avoid being delayed.”
