FANCY living on an island and getting to work by boat?

Then, this could be the job for you.

A rare opportunity has come up to work and live on Brownsea Island, one of Britain’s favourite nature reserves, nestled in Poole Harbour.

Brownsea Island National Trust is looking for an experienced boat skipper to run the ferry service from the island.

The successful candidate will also be offered the chance to stay in an idyllic cottage with a harbour view.

The job pays £20,721 per annum, and is a permanent job role of 37.5 hrs per week and it’s based on the island in Poole.

However, you will need a boat masters licence.

A spokesperson from Brownsea Island National Trust said: “The National Trust has the motto ‘For everyone, for ever’ at its heart.

“We’re working hard to create an inclusive culture, where everyone feels they belong. It’s important that our people reflect and represent the diversity of the communities and audiences we serve.

“We welcome and value difference, so when we say we’re for everyone, we want everyone to be welcome in our teams too.

“Wherever you’re from, and whatever your background, we want to hear from you – and it doesn’t matter if you’re jam first, cream first, or even if you don’t like scones at all. Everyone is welcome.”

The application adds: “You’ll be skippering any one of three island vessels that operate in partnership to deliver an island ferry service for Brownsea residents, staff, volunteers and guests.

“You’ll also assist with special island access such as holiday cottage guest transfers and bespoke events, and work as part of a broader team of countryside staff and volunteers delivering great service to visitors and carrying out countryside management tasks for which additional training will be provided.

“If you have an MCA Boat Masters Licence, a passion for conservation, have great people and communication skills, and fancy a unique opportunity to live on an island, this role would be perfect for you.”

The successful candidate will need to have: experience in handling boats in varying and challenging sea conditions, deliver practical conservation work to protect and enhance the conservation status of the property, demonstrate a passion for nature, heritage and the outdoors, a full UK driving licence, be an excellent team player and be able to work safely, with risk assessments and compliance with safety procedures.

The closing date for the position is 12 December 2021

Telephone interviews will be held on Tuesday 14th December and interviews on the island for Thursday 16th December.
