PEOPLE have been urged not to add to the “extremely busy” emergency hospital departments if possible.
University Hospitals Dorset (UHD) is reminding residents to only seek emergency care if absolutely necessary, as the winter season puts a strain on hospital services.
A spokesperson said: “Our emergency departments are extremely busy. If you need care but it is not an emergency please think 111.
They added: “Please be patient as we treat our sickest patients.”
The Echo previously spoke to UHD’s chief medical officer Dr Alyson O’Donnell who talked at length about the public playing their part in helping reduce busyness.
She said: “We’re dependent on the public doing the right thing, which means only coming to the emergency department when necessary, only ringing an ambulance when needed and if you’re not sure just contact 111.
NHS 111 is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week online via 111.nhs.uk or by calling 111 for free.
