HUNDREDS of street parties will be held across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Her Majesty is set to reach 70 years on the throne on February 6, 2022, with national celebrations taking place over a four-day bank holiday weekend of festivities in June.

An extended bank holiday, from Thursday June 2 to Sunday June 5, will provide an opportunity for communities and people across the country to come together to celebrate the historic milestone.

The Queen acceded to the throne on February 6, 1952 when Her Majesty was 25 years old.

A BCP Coucil spokesperson said: “BCP Council is currently working on ideas to enable hundreds of street parties across the area to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee.

“As part of the celebrations there will be an opportunity for communities to come together at parties, picnics and other gatherings to get to know each other a bit better in a spirit of fun and friendship.”

Cllr Beverley Dunlop said “I want to see residents coming together over the long weekend to celebrate in their roads with their friends and neighbours and to see businesses hosting huge parties. It will be wonderful if the 3 towns of BCP were awash with residents having parties and celebrating this historic milestone.”

More information on the council’s plans for the Platinum Jubilee celebrations will be announced early in the spring.
