The Christmas lights switch-on in Christchurch today has been cancelled.
Despite not being an official event, the Mayor of Christchurch was due to turn on the town's Christmas lights around 4.30pm.
But a post from Christchurch Chamber of Commerce confirmed the event has been called-off.
The lights will still go on tonight though it is understood.
"The risk with high winds is too great for public safety.
"Similarly the Saxon Square event organised by the Chamber is not happening now today, Saturday, but Sunday is planned to go ahead as the forecast is better.
"Come along and see the very entertaining Fifinellas on the stage at midday Sunday."
