Long delays are expected in Christchurch for the next week as a key route is closed for emergency works.
Last night drivers reported delays up to an hour due to the closure of Bargates, leading to tailbacks on Fairmile Road and surrounding routes.
A sewer collapse in the town centre has led to a one-way closure being put in place in Bargates.
No through traffic is being allowed along the road from Stour Road to its junction with Fountain Roundabout.
There is also no waiting, no parking, no loading/unloading at any time.
Access onto Bargates from Fountain Roundabout has been maintained.
The closure came into force from 9am on Tuesday, November 23, with a diversion in place using Stour Road and Barrack Road.
Traffic information service Inrix says it could be closed until December 3.
It is required to allow Wessex Water to install over pumping due to the collapsed sewer.
Traffic reportedly backed up all along Fairmile Road to Blackwater junction and Barrack Road heading into the town centre and Castle Lane East are also experiencing heavy traffic.
The Daily Echo has contacted Wessex Water for comment.
