YELLOW Buses has announced changes to one of its bus routes due to severe delays caused by gas works.

As from Monday October 25, the number six bus, which usually operates journeys between Bournemouth Town Centre and Wallisdown Cross will now terminate at Bournemouth University.

This change is being made following days of severe delays on the service caused by queuing traffic on Wallisdown Road believed to be caused by the SGN gas works in Alder Road.

The bus company says the knock-on effect of these delays is causing a “considerable impact” across their network.

Commercial director for Yellow Buses Simon Newport said: “I would like to apologise to those customers who have been inconvenienced as a result of the delay caused by these roadworks on our network.

“I also apologise for those customers at Wallisdown that may be inconvenienced by these changes.

“At times during the day buses have been taking around 30 minutes just to get from the university campus, along Wallisdown Road, turning at the roundabout and coming back to the university, and we cannot provide the service under these conditions.

“We aim to reinstate journeys to Wallisdown Cross once the traffic problems ease.”

Route six journeys that continue beyond Wallisdown Cross will not change, including journeys to High Howe, Bearwood and Wimborne.

The journeys that will now terminate at the university operate roughly between 8.30am and 3.30pm.
