FIREFIGHTERS, coastguards and a drone came to the aid of a dog who spent the night outside after going missing on a walk.

Max, a 13-year-old Border Collie, went missing while on a walk with his owner in Eype yesterday evening. After spending time looking for his dog, Max's owner eventually heard him whimpering and called Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service for help.

Unfortunately, fire crews could not be deployed until this morning for safety reasons, so Max spent the night outside.

Crews from Weymouth, Poole and Bridport fire stations, along with coastguards from West Bay, were all sent to Eype earlier today to rescue Max, who was located by his owner using a drone.

Crews used rope rescue equipment to rescue Max who was reunited with his owner.

A spokesman for DWFRS said: "Yesterday evening, Max the Border Collie went missing whilst out on a walk with his owner in Eype, Dorset.

"His owner spent the evening looking for Max and eventually called us for help when he could hear his dog whimpering.

"For safety reasons, we couldn’t implement a rescue until daylight hours this morning when technical rescue crews from Weymouth Fire Station , Poole Fire Station, an on-call crew from Bridport Fire Station and West Bay Coastguard Rescue Team were mobilised to go and rescue Max.
