AN INQUEST has opened into the death of a nine-month-old baby.

Eleanor Joan Atkinson, who lived in the Fairmile area of Christchurch, died in hospital on March 23.

Area coroner for Dorset Brendan Allen presided over a hearing at Bournemouth Town Hall on October 7.

The court heard that the medical cause of death had been given as inhalation of water (drowning) and there were no suspicious circumstances.

Coroner’s officer Ken McEwan said: “The brief circumstances are that police and paramedics were called to the address following reports of an unresponsive baby.

"The baby was then transferred to Southampton Hospital, where despite treatment, she continued to decline and then passed away in their care.

“Dorset Police have confirmed that there are no suspicious circumstances.”

Mr Allen adjourned the inquest, with a review hearing scheduled to take place on December 20.
