FIVE men were spotted allegedly hare coursing and causing damage to fields in Dorset.

Last night, the Dorset Police Rural Crime Team received several reports of five men on quadbikes hare coursing and damaging fields in Bere Regis, Bloxworth and Lytchett Matravers.

The men, who were reportedly wearing balaclavas, were seen driving erratically with no headlights and on the wrong side of the road. Enquiries are ongoing.

A spokesman for Dorset Police Rural Crime Team said: "Last night, five males in balaclavas on three quadbikes rode across multiple fields around Bere Regis, Bloxworth and Lytchett Matravers.

"They are believed to have been hare coursing and caused damage to several fields.

"We are grateful for several calls from motorists who saw them on the roads, driving erratically with no lights on or using their full beam and lamps to stop others from seeing them more closely and driving on wrong side of the road. Enquiries are ongoing.

"Dorset Police are part of the 26-force-strong Operation Galileo which targets those hare coursers causing the most harm in rural communities. Offenders can expect civil and criminal orders at court banning them from large areas, owning a dog and other restrictions. We will always ask the court to disqualify them from driving, if they have used any vehicle as part of their offending.

"If you have any information regards these offenders please email 101@dorset.pnn.police.uk quoting crime ref 5521016100. Any information is treated in confidence."
