A KEY Dorset road is ‘likely to remain closed into the weekend’ as a result of fallen power cables Dorset Travel have said.

The force received the initial report just after 11pm on the previous night and closed the route.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: “We received a report at 11.14pm on Thursday September 30 of power cables across the road on the A354 near to the Badger roundabout in Blandford.

“Road closures were put in place. The local authority has also been made aware."

As a result a diversion was put in place through Charlton Marshall with delays to be expected.

Dorset Travel have confirmed that the closure is ‘likely to remain closed into the weekend’.

They also reported that they had received reports the cables had caught fire.

However, Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service told the Echo upon initial inspection of the logs it 'doesn’t look like' they 'were called to anything relating to this incident'.

Dorset Police have warned motorists to expect delays and that the diversion is not suitable for HGV's.

The force also said that those who are travelling in the area should consider other routes and plan their journey accordingly.
