AN ELDERLY man from Poole had his Rolex stolen during a distraction theft earlier this week.

Two girls, believed to be in their 20s, with a clipboard approached a man in his 80s at his address in Links Road between 12.30pm and 1pm on Tuesday September 21.

Having asked for the man’s signature for a petition one of the females thanked him and went to embrace him.

It wasn’t until a few minutes later that the elderly man noticed his watch had been taken.

Officers believe the incident is related to a series of similar thefts across Dorset over the past few months.

Police investigating the incident are appealing for those with information to come forward.

A spokesman from Dorset Police said: “Two females described as being in their late 20s and driving a small white car waved at a man aged in his 80's in his garden to gain his attention.

“The females had a clip board and approached the man asking him to sign a petition.

“After he had signed the petition, one of the females thanked him and lent forward giving him a hug.

“While the man was mindful that he had his wallet in his back pocket he did not notice until a few minutes later that the female had stolen his Rolex watch from his wrist.

“It is believed that these females are responsible for a series of similar thefts across Dorset this year and the public should be mindful of being approached in this manner or engaging in conversation with the individuals.”
