WORK on the former Christchurch Police Station is nearing a start date as the proposed developer expects the amended plans are due to be finalised in the coming weeks.

Property developer Aster Homes say they are in talks with BCP Council over the legal agreement attached to the site before ownership of the land is transferred.

The council’s planning committee approved Aster Homes’ application to redevelop the disused land between Barrack Road and Bargates in February 2020, despite strong opposition.

Aster Homes is planning to build 130 homes, dozens of sheltered accommodation units and commercial and community facilities on the police station and magistrates’ court site.

An Aster Group spokesperson said: “We’re currently working with Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council to finalise the legal agreement that will be attached to the planning approval before we take ownership of the land at Bargates.

“We hope to be able to start work on site as soon as possible.”
