A CHARITY which provides a vital lifeline for rough sleepers is holding a virtual run to keep its mobile health clinic operational.

The HealthBus Trust is holding the virtual run as part of a campaign to raise £10,000 to keep its new bus clinic running.

The family friendly, virtual event is due to take place October 2 and 3 and will see members of the public run, walk, jog or skip anywhere to raise funds.

As a charity, the HealthBus Trust seeks to respond to the need for accessible and appropriate healthcare for rough sleepers and the homeless across Bournemouth. It works in partnership with a wide range of like-minded organisations to provide a cohesive and effective service.

From January to June 2021, the HealthBus GP and Nurse have completed 871 appointments. The HealthBus clinicians have been busy delivering care at the point of need to some of the most vulnerable people in society.

Rough sleeper Bill said: “This service saved my life when I was living on the streets. I was a mess and had given up. The HealthBus team were so kind to me and have helped restore my hope in people. I have a long journey ahead out of addiction but am getting the help and support I need."

HealthBus medical director and GP, Dr Maggie Kirk said: "Engaging this client group with care has disproportionate benefits for the individuals concerned, for the rest of the health economy and for the general wellbeing of our town. Having the keys to our wonderful new HealthBus has meant we are able to meet and treat hundreds of people locally with essential healthcare.”

A spokesperson from the Trust said: "We work in conjunction with Providence Surgery and local providers of homeless services including the hospitals. These partnerships help people find the support they need to move on in life.

Tickets cost £6.50 per child, £10.00 per adult and £30.00 for families of two adults & two children.
