PEOPLE are urged to reach out to anyone who is struggling with their mental health after World Suicidal Prevention Day.

The national day takes place every year on place on September 10 and aims to raise awareness of the actions organisations around the world are taking to try and reduce the number of suicides that take place every years.

Dorset Healthcare is encouraging people to take action by noticing what is going on with their friends, families and colleagues and to reach out to them if they notice something is different in a bid to encourage those with suicidal thoughts to ask for help.

Dorset Healthcare lead for psychology Meherzin Das said: "Through our thoughtfulness and actions we can all make a difference by reaching out to someone in their darkest moments, and supporting friends and colleagues who might be experiencing suicidal thoughts or others bereaved by suicide.

"No one needs to suffer alone because we are all here to help each other in every way we can."

Dorset Healthcare has a 24/7 helpline for anyone experiencing poor mental health. Call 0800 652 0190 or visit www.dorsethealthcare.nhs.uk/takeastep for more information.
