ONE man’s junk is another man’s gold.
That is the mantra behind one of Wimborne Road’s newest additions, Fish4Junk.
Fish4Junk in 933 Wimborne Road, Moordown, is the brainchild of Jamie Fish, a self-confessed lover of vintage and retro items.
After being made redundant last year during the pandemic, Jamie and his wife Sam decided to take a leap of faith and make their dreams a reality.
Jamie said: “My mum was an antiques dealer, so my passion has always been there. A lot of people who come to our house have asked ‘where did you get that?’ so I turned my passion into a business.
“I decided to open the shop in wonderful Moordown.
“We launched the website a year ago, but Fish4Junk has been in the background for some years.
“We are trying to make this area the vintage quarter of Bournemouth, it is such a great area and the response to this shop opening has been absolutely fantastic.
“I’ve sold items to Paloma Faith and had a shoutout from Sophie Ellis-Bextor on the radio.”
Fish4Junk stocks a range of eclectic and intriguing products that have been sourced locally and from across the world.
It sells record collections, furniture, sideboards, cabinets, chest of drawers, sofas, chairs, artwork, and Scandinavian glass and ceramics.
Items from brands such as Ladderax, Ercol, G-Plan, Stag, Merrow Associates, Heals, Frem Rojle, Ernest Race, and early Ikea are also available.
Jamie said: “Sam and I have travelled all over the world to find these items, from Belgium, Denmark and LA.
“We also do evaluations for people and buy single items, collections and do house clearances. We sell, buy and source items for the shop.
“Every hour the stock is changing.
“It is very early days, but if the business continues the way it’s going, we can spread it further and potentially get a warehouse to bring more stock in.
“Bournemouth needs this. Online shopping is great, but people are fed up with working for big corporations, so it is time for the creatives to rise.
“I still believe the business is in its early days, but I am super excited. It is the rise of the independents, and Bournemouth is waking up.”
Fish4Junk is open Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 10am to 5pm.
