THE story of the deck chair saga will run for a while and has even hit the national press. Not the first time BCP Council has featured in the daily press for grand stupidity.
When the first article appeared in the Echo it sounded to me like this decision to lock down the dangerous deck chairs had been taken by a lone council officer (working from home of course) but the comment/statement given in the Echo on Saturday would suggest that was not the case.
With the grand title of portfolio holder for tourism, leisure and culture, Councillor Mohan Iyengar stated that the plans were discussed with all councillors who agreed to the action taken.
He also stated that deckchairs are a high touch item for Covid 19 safety so that combined with potential weaponization makes them ultra-dangerous. No wonder they are now all in lockdown, much like we have been for so long.
It is very concerning to learn that what appears to be the whole council have either approved or not challenged the action taken, what hope for the future?
