AS we've come to expect from The Glad Rags Production Company, this show just simply ticks all the boxes.

The team that brings the hugely popular Christmas Spectacular to Christchurch every year (and fear not, the annual production is returning to The Regent once again in December), has this time turned its attention to a Summer Spectacular.

Sure, there's no Santa Claus, or adorable little elves, but while this production is, understandably, lacking in Christmas spirit, it has everything else this locally-based company is known for in abundance.

Slick, high energy dance numbers, stand-out vocals and, of course, those super-sparkly costumes.

This time, it's a one-act show, but audiences certainly won't feel short-changed. There's a huge amount packed into the hour and 20 minutes, as the cast take you on a whistle-stop tour of their favourite music genres, including pop, rock, country and Motown, finishing with a toe-tapping disco finale.

Whether you're a fan of the Spice Girls and Take That, Bon Jovi, Queen, The Beatles, Dolly Parton, Gloria Gaynor or Abba, rest assured there will be something for you. Audience members of all ages were singing along all around me.

Glad Rags have delivered, once again, a fabulous, feel-good production but, more than that, they have brought the magic of theatre back, even giving seven teams of talented local youngsters the chance to be a part of the show.

The cast's delight at being back on stage is so infectious, you're guaranteed to leave with a smile on your face and a song in your heart.

The Summer Spectacular is at the Regent Centre in Christchurch until Sunday, August 29. Tickets from regentcentre.co.uk
