These pictures show the construction work carried out at on Kings Park Stadium - as it was being called at the time - at various stages.
The three-sided stadium, which held 9,600 spectators, cost £6.5 million to build.
The pitch was rotated ninety degrees from its original position and the ground moved away from nearby housing.
Bournemouth played their first eight games of the 2001-02 season at the Avenue Stadium in Dorchester because the work was not finished in time.
