The fire was left to burn overnight after being unclipped from its mooring in the yacht club, and fire crews remained on the scene until Tuesday.

And videographer Lawrence Robson captured footage of the ten-metre catamaran yacht fully alight.

The boats owners had been eating at a nearby restaurant when they saw their vessel burst into flames, the yacht club boss revealed.

Parkstone general manager Paul Jennings said: “It’s going to take a few days to determine what’s what.

“There was a yacht tied at the end of the pontoon and we were able to untie it and move it away from the existing boats. We’ve got a really highly skilled team who were able to ring fence it and everybody was safe.

“The owners were eating at the time, so they were sat in the dining room and they saw the smoke go up, so it was quite traumatic for lots of people.”

The fire brigade, harbour master, RNLI, the coastguard and armed police were in attendance and one of the club’s rear commodores put the yacht owners up in a hotel.
