OVER 11,000 festival goers flocked to Baiter Park for the return of the Poole Harbour Festival.

Thousands of music lovers attended the three-day family-friendly festival, signalling the start of the summer holidays and ensuing festival season in Dorset.

Ben Dyas from Poole Harbour Events Limited said: “So far, we have had just over 2,000 on the Friday, just over 5,000 people attend on the Saturday and around 4,000 on the Sunday which is just great.

“We had a few showers on Saturday which was annoying but that didn’t stop people from having a good time. Sunday was much better weather wise and meant we could sign of the festival in style.

“People were just so happy to be outside and enjoying live music again. It was just great to see with smiles on their faces and having a good time.”

Visitors were entertained by a vast array of music from more than 50 live acts across the festival’s three stages.

Various tribute acts graced the stage on Saturday and Sunday including UK Queen (Queen tribute), Kings of Lyon, The Fillers (Killers tribute) and The Jilted Generation (The Prodigy tribute), with 90s British rock bands Toploader and Dodgy headlining on Sunday August 1.

“The outdoor stage has been fantastic,” said Ben. “People have been saying they have loved the look of it and that it feels like a proper festival.”

“We had The Prodigy tribute band headlining on Saturday night, and they wiped up a storm. There must have been around 3,000 people who stuck around and watched them which was just great to see.

“That is why we try to put our headline acts on the Sunday because we want to sign the event off with a bang.”

Festival goers were also treated to a wide range of quality street food stall, from pizzas to Mexican and Jamaican cuisine to crepes and ice cream.

With next year’s headline act already confirmed, organisers say that next summer’s weekender can’t come around soon enough.

“We have had a good range of foods stall down here this weekend and the crowds have loved the choices on offer,” Ben added.

“We have had our headline act for next year confirmed as Scouting For Girls which we are really excited for.

“It has been amazing welcoming back people to the festival this year, and we can’t wait to go again next year.”
