A CAR has been 'fully involved in a fire' which caused the closure of a section of the A35.

The A35 Puddletown Bypass, near Bere Regis, was closed following a car fire, which is believed to have been caused by a mechanical issue.

Traffic was queuing from A31 Shell Roundabout to Roke Road.

The road has now been cleared.

Fire crews from Dorchester and Poole were in attendance.

A spokesman for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Two fire crews are currently in attendance on the A35 Puddletown Bypass near Bere Regis. One vehicle has been been fully involved in fire.

"Firefighters used two hose reels and two breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire and the road is closed in both directions."

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: "The vehicle fire was most likely caused by a mechanical issue.

"No one was injured in the blaze. Firefighters and highways officers have been on the scene."

A spokesman for Travel Dorset said: "Road cleared, earlier vehicle fire on A35 Westbound from A31, Shell Roundabout, to Roke Road."
