A YACHT struggling to anchor was assisted by Swanage Lifeboat crews earlier today.

A Trent class lifeboat, 14-11, was on trials in Studland Bay today, July 28, when crews came across the 13 metre yacht.

The boat’s solo crew appeared to be having difficulty in lowering the sails as well as getting the anchor to hold.

Crews made the decision to call for operational lifeboat support from Swanage.

The crew were paged and the lifeboat launched soon afterwards, arriving on scene in a strong south-westerly wind to find the casualty still struggling with the conditions.

Two crew members were placed aboard the yacht to help and a tow into Poole Harbour was offered.

The volunteers were able to help stabilise and secure the yacht and were recovered back to the lifeboat.

The UK Coastguard then requested that the yacht’s skipper contact them regularly for welfare checks and the lifeboat was released from the scene.
