LEADER of the BCP Council Drew Mellor has announced that the authority will be conducting an interim review into its biodiversity scheme tomorrow on Thursday July 29.

This news comes after the Echo has received plenty of complaints from locals that the plan has ‘ruined’ local green areas around the conurbation.

‘Let it Grow’ launched only in July this year but it appears the council are to perform a U-turn on parts of the trial scheme already.

Speaking on a live question and answer session with the public, Councillor Mellor said: “I have asked for an interim review on this and I actually have a meeting tomorrow morning to discuss that with our lead officer and portfolio holder.

“Where I think they work really well is where there are wild flowers planted and we’re making a feature of it. Where we’re just overgrown it's a real challenge.”

He then went on to reference the A338 and said the council had “scheduled a verge clearing” there.

Cllr. Mellor added: “So we’re not going to wait until the end of the trial in September, we are going to do something about some of it now.

“But we’ve got to be positive and say look, it is a trial about our ecology and biodiversity.”

The Echo has received numerous complaints from locals who have said their local greens have been ‘ruined’ as a direct result of the scheme.

The leader of the BCP Council did also say the authority “could do a better job about why” they’re doing it, also stating its not about funding but biodiversity.
