CHRISTCHURCH business Carry On Costumes has said is thankful for the “lifeline” it has received a in the form of a grant from BCP Council.

Following the huge success of their annual Christmas Spectacular shows, the Regent Centre will host a musical celebration of summer fun, courtesy of the Glad Rag Production Company and its sister company, Carry on Costumes.

The grant will be used to help them deliver the Summer Spectacular to the Regent Centre this August.

It has been an incredibly tough year for the theatre industry and whilst the company have been lucky enough to be involved in some successful productions over the pandemic, their future remained uncertain.

Business owner Sue Simmerling said: “We’re delighted to receive this grant; as a company we are committed to using local performers, children and contractors, collaborating with other businesses in the area to celebrate the return of live theatre and create an exciting event for residents and tourists to enjoy over the August bank holiday weekend.

“This will ensure the continued vitality of the local business community and support BCP Council’s plans to drive growth across the region.

“This grant is a lifeline for our company, and we are incredibly grateful to receive it.’’

The Summer Spectacular will take to the stage at the theatre in Christchurch from Thursday August 26 to Sunday August 29 for seven performances.

The show opens with the cast stuck in lockdown where they begin dreaming up a post-lockdown party and compile an ultimate party playlist full of some of the best songs of all time.

The sequin studded Summer Spectacular is filled with song, dance, and lavish costumes, which have been designed and created by West End costumier Sue Simmerling.

Deputy Leader of BCP Council and Portfolio Holder for Economy Cllr Philip Broadhead said: “Following a competitive application process, we are pleased to award this grant to Carry on Costumes and The Glad Rag Production Company.

“This project is just one of many innovative initiatives that our latest package of discretionary business support will now bring to life.

“It will contribute towards Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole’s reputation as a place where businesses can continue to flourish and grow.’’

Tickets for the show are priced at £18 and £17 for conc3essions, with a family of four able to attend for £60.
