CANINE chums will be putting their best paw forward in an attempt to ride the wave to success in the country's only dog surfing and paddleboard championship.

The 'dogmasters' 2021 will feature a packed day of competitions, music, food and drink at Branksome Dene beach on Sunday, July 25.

From sausage dogs on surf boards to pups who love SUPS (stand up paddleboards), the competition is open to all thrill-seeking canines across the country and their board masters.

Spectators are also welcome for the ticketed event, with gates opening at 9.45am and competitions starting at 10am.

One of the judges who will be making the tough call on winners is Coast and One Show presenter Miranda Krestovnikoff, who will be bringing Nanuk, her pet pooch, with her.

Shakka Surf, a business based at Branksome Dene, run the event and this year will have the support of title sponsors Red Paddle Co, which has helped to grow the event to become the spectacle it is set to be on Sunday.

All competitors will race on inflatable Red boards which are designed for maximum stability and movement through the water.

The only requisites for entry in the competitions are that the dogs need to have a level of competence on the boards for the safety of all competitors and are happy to be around other dogs and the sea.
