MORE than 100 motorcyclists rode through Wimborne in memory of a six-year-old girl who died last year with a brain tumour.

“Brave and beautiful” Mia Hankins died in November last year after being diagnosed with a brain tumour. Through organ donation, she helped prolong the life of three others.

And 130 motorcyclists took to the streets, riding through Wimborne and Blandford on Sunday, raising more than £15,000 for Brain Tumour Research.

Dad, Tom Hankins said: “My friend Adam organised it, it was meant to be just a little bike ride with a few of his friends and it’s turned out to be more than 100 bikes.

“The support from everyone has been absolutely amazing, it’s Mia in a nutshell, she was always caring about other people and all these people turning up is a very Mia-thing, looking after other people.

“This is just all for Mia. I can’t thank Adam enough and all the guys for organising it.

“It’s such a wonderful thing to do, it’s going to be loud which means Mia will be able to hear it.

“Mia is our world, she keeps us moving, she means everything to us. Anything we can do to keep her memory going is so important.”

Tom completed his bike training just five weeks ago so he could take part in the ride, while mum, Hannah Rideout, rode on the back of Tom’s stepdad’s bike.

Hannah said: “I never got on the back of Dave’s bike because of Mia, I thought she’s going to need me around.

“Obviously with everything that’s happened, I’m going to get on there for her.”

Family friend, Adam Robertson organised the event with help of fellow motorcyclist Rob Knowler.

Adam said: “In all honesty, I thought it would be myself and a few mates I ride with. I think it is fair to say the family were astounded that complete strangers would give their time and money to a cause and memory of a young girl that they had no relation to.”

Adam said he got Rob involved and after posting the ride on social media it gained interest from more than 100 bikers.

Rob added: “The good thing about bikers is we are always willing to put our hands in our pockets for a good charity. The ride will look incredible, sound incredible and will put a halt to Wimborne and it’s all for a good cause.”
