A MAN is due to appear in the dock on Friday accused of attempting to rape a woman.
Dorset Police has charged a man in connection with a report of sexual assault in Bournemouth.
It was reported that at around 2.25am on Wednesday, July 7, a young woman was approached by a man as she walked along Charminster Road.
The man then allegedly walked with her along Heron Court Road.
He reportedly made several attempts to kiss the woman before sexually assaulting her at an address.
Following enquiries led by Dorset Police’s Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT) and close consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, the force has been authorised to charge a 23-year-old local man with attempted rape and sexual assault.
He is due to appear before Poole Magistrates’ Court on Friday, July 16.
Detective Inspector Simon Huxter, of MCIT, said: “We would like to thank the public for helping with our investigation and sharing our appeals.
“This matter is now subject to a court process and as is typical in such circumstances, it would be entirely inappropriate for Dorset Police to comment further during the proceedings. It is vital that the judicial system is allowed to follow its course.
“I would like to remind the public that this matter is now the subject of active court proceedings and it is important to stress that there should be no commentary or sharing of information online or on social media that could potentially prejudice these proceedings.”
