Local bike share provider, Beryl has teamed up with the mental health charity Dorset Mind, for their annual fundraiser, the Tour de Dorset.

Coinciding with the Tour de France, participants in the challenge simply have to cycle as far as they can between June 26, and July 18.

All proceeds raised from the sign-up fee will go directly to Dorset Mind, to help them meet the rising demand for mental health support in Dorset.

Marianne Storey, CEO, Dorset Mind said: "The impact of the pandemic on people's mental wellbeing should not be underestimated. Getting active and exercising became key to helping people maintain their wellbeing.

‘’We witnessed a huge rise in people taking part in activity-based fundraising like the Tour de Dorset because of this - and it also gave them a much-needed focus.

‘’Never have our services for adults and young people been more needed - so if you can, get involved and sign up today."

Prizes for the furthest distances, the highest amount fundraised, and best photo are available for entrants aged 13 and over, who can log their time spent cycling via the Strava challenge.

Seeking to ensure that the Tour de Dorset is available to anyone who would like to take part, Beryl is offering a complimentary 400 minute bundle to those who do not have their own bike (and are aged 16 or over).

Phil Ellis, CEO, Beryl said: ‘’We’re delighted to be partnering with Dorset Mind for this year’s Tour de Dorset. Exaggerated by the difficult past year and a half, their support services are in extremely high demand - and we’re encouraging people to take part and help others in their community by doing so.

‘’We know from feedback from our riders that cycling can have a hugely beneficial impact on mental health. This challenge not only highlights that but will raise much needed funds for Dorset Mind.’’
