THE ORGANISERS of Christchurch’s Classic Cars On The Quay event have decided to postpone this month’s event due to the current restrictions.
Over 500 people had registered to attend vintage car rally which was due to be held on Saturday June 27 at Christchurch Quay.
However, as the lifting of full lockdown restrictions has been postponed by four weeks, the current guidelines mean that the event would be restricted to a maximum of 200 vehicles.

Having lost the previous arranged date in April, organiser Ashley Miller said that cancelling a second date is a “bitter pill to swallow”.
He added: “It is not the BCP Council that have postponed the event. It is myself, on behalf of my events team, as we are not Covid marshals but parking marshals.
“Our biggest concern was the number of members of the public who attend the Christchurch Quay events.
“Over the past 12 years our events have grown each year and the amount of general public attending runs into thousands so to keep them all socially distanced falls to me to keep them apart as the organiser.”
As the month of July is apparently “fully booked” with events, planners say that their scheduled event on August 8 will replace the cancelled meet on 27th June, having been approved by BCP Council.
Christchurch’s Classic Cars On The Quay also have two events in September, on Sunday September 5 and Sunday September 26, for visitors to look forward to.
Ashley said: “My team members are parking marshals and not Covid marshals so would not feel safe asking people to keep apart especially as myself or my team members have no jurisdiction whatsoever when it comes to asking people to socially distance.
“Having emailed all the events team and having spoken to some on the telephone regarding the current situation with the restrictions, we decided not to go ahead in June but go for the August date.
“By then, restrictions should hopefully be lifted, and everyone can come along and enjoy our show of classic cars and vintage vehicles.
