COASTGUARD teams were tasked to help recover a pink inflatable flamingo adrift in Poole Bay.

While on the scene, rescue teams noticed another inflatable drifting out with two people on board.

A spokesperson for Southbourne Coastguard said: “Tasked at 1848 hours by the joint rescue coordination centre to reports of a pink inflatable flamingo adrift in Poole Bay near Bournemouth.

“Once on scene we checked the area for any owners and then guided RNLI Mudeford lifeboat to its position for recovery but more importantly whether anyone had come off it and they were still in the water.

“At the same time another inflatable was sighted drifting out to see with two persons on board and we quickly guided Mudeford Lifeboat to this second toy for recovery to shore with the two persons onboard.

“Once on shore safety advice was given. A search was then recommenced in relation to the first toy but with no reports of anyone missing and no one in the sea in the vicinity we stood down.

“Finally, members of the public reported a 4x4 stuck in the sand above the high-water mark trying to recover a small speedboat and trailer.

“Appropriate safety advice was given along with details of the local authority. At this point we stood down and returned to station.”
