A woman was rescued after falling 10ft from a pathway onto a beach.

Poole RNLI  were called to help with the medical evacuation in Poole around lunchtime on Friday.

The woman was injured after falling from the path near Rockley Bridge down to the beach in the backwaters of Poole.

Due to her location, coastguard officers called the RNLI, who made their way across "challenging mud" to reach her.

A spokesperson for Poole RNLI said: "When the crew arrived on scene, they checked that the casualty was okay, she was in some considerable pain.

"The lifeboat volunteers, endeavored to make her more comfortable, They placed her in a neck collar and carefully placed her into a basket stretcher. Then with help from coastguards, the casualty was transferred carefully through thick mud, the crew waded for about 80m until the water was deep enough for the engine on the D class to start."

The woman was transferred to the care of the ambulance service once at Rockley Slipway.

And the lifeboat returned to the station for a deep clean.

Poole Lifeboat volunteer helm Dave Riley said: "The casualty we assisted today, thankfully had a mobile phone with her and was able to call for help.

"We also demonstrated some great cross agency collaboration between Poole Lifeboat crew and Poole Coastguard Rescue Team and Southbourne Coastguard rescue teams. We all wish the casualty a speedy recovery."
