Cases rise across the UK (PA)

Across Dorset and BCP the case rate has started to rise in the last seven days.

Figures released by Public Health Dorset show in the seven days to June 7, the rate in the BCP area was 11.4 per 100,000 people and 8.5 in wider Dorset.

This is a significant rise in Dorset from a rate of 2.6 last week and a rise from 6.8 in BCP (as of June 2).

This means there were 45 positive coronavirus cases across BCP and 32 in Dorset, up from 10 five days ago.

However, the case rate across Dorset and BCP remains below average for the south west and England.

A spokesperson for Public Health Dorset said: "Case rates remain low in the Dorset Council and Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council areas this week.

"However, nationally we are seeing cases start to increase so we must remain vigilant to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in Dorset.

"The best way to protect yourself and others is to continue to follow the rules on hands, face, space and fresh air, do twice weekly rapid tests and get both doses of the vaccine when it's offered to you."

During the last seven days, the rate was 13.1 in the south west and 40.6 in England.

This is the total number of people with at least one positive COVID-19 test result, either lab-reported or through a lateral flow device.
