A ROAD in Gillingham will close for three days for roadworks.

A one-mile stretch of Bay Road, between the junctions for Shaftesbury Road to outside Stirling View, will be closed in both directions between Wednesday, June 14 and Friday, June 16.

A public notice states the maintenance is to install a new LV cable for a new property and a road closure is necessary for the works to be safely carried out.

It reads: “This notice will enable Scottish and Southern Power Distribution safe access to install a LV cable to provide electricity to a new property.”

During the road closure, a 7.9-mile diversion route will be signposted and will take motorists around the town and the Blackmore Vale.

To bypass the closed road, motorists must head south-east for 1.3 miles before turning right and follow the road for under a mile and then turn right onto The Street.

From here, drivers will then turn right at Motcombe Road, follow the road and then turn right onto B3081.

Motorists should take the second exit onto Shaftesbury Road/B3081 at the roundabout to continue to follow B3081 and use the second exit onto Le Neubourg Way/B3081 at the next roundabout.

Drivers will continue to follow Le Neubourg Way for under a mile and take the second exit onto Queen Street at the roundabout. Motorists will then turn left onto Bay Road.

Dorset Council warns that any person who breaches the road closure could be convicted or face a fine not exceeding £1,000.
