PUPILS at a Poole school have been asked to self-isolate after a positive case of coronavirus was confirmed.

The Cornerstone Academy - formerly Carter Community School - in Hamworthy received confirmation of the case over the Bank Holiday weekend.

It is the first school in Dorset to record a case since the school Easter holiday.

A spokesman for BCP Council said: "We are aware of a confirmed positive case of COVID-19 at The Cornerstone Academy in Poole. The school is working closely with Public Health Dorset, BCP Council and Public Health England South West to ensure that all necessary measures are being met.

Pupils to be offered extra tuition and chance to repeat school year

"All close contacts of the confirmed case have been notified and advised to self-isolate for 10 days. If close contacts go on to develop any symptoms, they must book a PCR test."

It comes as a total of 12 new cases were recorded across Dorset in the 24 hours leading p to 4pm yesterday.

Four of the cases were in the Dorset Council area and eight in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.

Yesterday was the first day since the start of the pandemic that no coronavirus deaths were recorded in the UK.
