A VULNERABLE casualty was airlifted to hospital after multiple calls to the emergency services regarding a “very poorly person” in Purbeck yesterday morning.
Poole Lifeboat Station’s two vessels were called out at just after 9am by the UK Coastguard on Sunday, May 30, after a report of “cries for help” in the vicinity of Baiter.
A police helicopter had spotted the person on the riverbank near Turners Cove, on the River Frome, and landed nearby.
Members of Dorset Search & Rescue, who were also on the scene, were administering first aid.
When the air ambulance arrived, the casualty was transferred to a stretcher and carried to the awaiting air ambulance, who took the casualty to Bournemouth Hospital.
A spokesman from RNLI Poole Lifeboat Station said: “Both Poole lifeboats were tasked at just after 9am on Sunday May 30 by UK Coastguard after a report of ‘cries for help’ in the vicinity of Baiter had been heard.
“The lifeboats were soon on scene and began to search the area, the D Class had passed the slipway at Baiter and was making some enquiries with a lady on a yacht, when they were re-tasked by the Coastguard to another incident.
“The Atlantic continued with the search at Baiter.
When the lifeboat came alongside at the riverbank, they found other agencies on scene. Two of the lifeboat crew went ashore to assist. The coastguards were also in attendance.
“As the casualty was safely taken care of the lifeboat returned to station, after refuelling and a wash down they were ready for service 11am.
“The Atlantic had found nothing untoward at Baiter and had returned to station a little earlier.”
