RELENTLESS soggy weather has made May the wettest month of the year in East Dorset.

Independent weather station WessexWeather has recorded 123.4mm of rain so far - and there's still a week to go.

The reading is almost 250 per cent of the usual May total and the biggest monthly rainfall since February 2014.

In contrast April saw just 4.5 per cent of its normal rainfall.

The weather is frustrating for local businesses who have put measures in place to deal with thousands of staycation visitors.

Customers were left wet and shivering outside pubs and cafes until they reopened for indoor service last week.

And businesses are hoping for an improvement as families head to the coast for the half term holiday next week.

The weather s set to brighten up from tomorrow with temperatures reaching 19C with sun by Sunday.
