THESE Dorset youngsters put on crazy footwear in an effort to raise awareness over the dangers of smoking. And, as evidence suggests, it may have worked.

The date was June 20, 2001, and at that time it was recorded that 27 per cent of all adults in the UK smoked.
According to figures released by the Office of National Statistics, that number fell to 14.1 per cent in 2019.
So, according to the numbers, it could be said that the pupils featured in these pictures, along with many others across the UK, helped people give up smoking and potentially saved lives.
