THE A31 at Ferndown has been closed in both directions due to a fallen tree.

The road is shut between the A348 at Trickett's Cross and the A338 near Ringwood.

Highways England contractors are on scene working to clear the road.

A diversion is in place.

Westbound traffic should follow the hollow square diversion symbol.

  • Exit the A31 westbound at Ashley Heath Interchange (A388)
  • At the roundabout, take the first exit and join the A388 dual carriageway
  • Continue for 6 miles until the B3073 interchange
  • At the interchange, turn right and join the B3073 Hurn Road
  • Continue for 3 miles and pass Bournemouth International Airport
  • Follow to the A347 New Road traffic signal controlled junction
  • Turn right and join the A347 and continue until the A348 Ringwood Road traffic signal controlled junction at Ferndown
  • Turn right at the junction and continue on the A347 through Ferndown until the A31 Palmersford roundabout
  • At the roundabout use the 1st exit to re-join the A31 westbound

Eastbound traffic should follow the hollow circle diversion symbol, the reverse of the above route.

A Highways England spokesperson said: “Please allow extra time for your journey should you be travelling in the area this afternoon.”

Strong winds are causing disruption across Dorset today with gusts of up to 60mph expected.
