THE much-loved British Pedal Car Grand Prix set to be held in Ringwood in July has been cancelled over uncertainty regarding social distancing guidelines, as reported in the Daily Echo earlier this week.

In light of this, the Echo looks back at the event 10 years ago on July 10, 2011.

The event, held in New Milton, saw more than 250 competitors and 52 pedal cars take part in the two-hour endurance race around the town centre circuit.

The race also saw CBBC presenters Ed Petrie and Ian Stirling racing against each other for their own trophy with the New Milton Round Table and Team Phoenix teams respectively.

Bournemouth Echo:

And it was Ian who came out on top.

The Christchurch Bicycle Club team won the overall race.

There were also five ladies’ teams and 12 junior teams competing for their own trophies, with Squeals on Wheels taking the honours in the ladies’ event and Swebbelli Racing for the juniors.
