Abbie King, director of Shire Hall Historic Courthouse Museum, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to open our doors once again and welcome visitors back to Shire Hall.

"The last year has been extremely challenging for museums and cultural organisations across the country, so it’s brilliant that we can reopen from 17th May and start sharing our stories again.

"We are so grateful for the continued support we’ve received from our local community and we’re looking forward to welcoming you all back to Shire Hall very soon.”

Shire Hall has an exciting schedule of events planned, starting with an invasion of Pirates at half term.

Families are invited to join Shire Hall of a week of swashbuckling activities, including a treasure hunt around the museum and breakfast with a pirate.

Later in the summer Shire Hall will be partnering with Weymouth Museum to host an exhibition on Georgian Dorset, with selected artworks from the Bussell collection.

Shire Hall will welcome back renowned artist Jason Wilsher-Mills for a groundbreaking exhibition exploring what it is to be disabled at this moment in time, as he shares stories from the disabled community through art and technology.

With the museum reopening, Shire Hall is taking bookings for its award-winning learning visits for schools.

Delivered by Shire Hall’s engaging learning team, the schools programme encourages the development of critical thinking, problem solving and communication skills through unique and engaging sessions that span history and cross the curriculum.

As well as reopening the museum, the café and shop will also be open to visitors.
