Exactly 10 coronavirus cases were confirmed in Dorset over the last 24 hours, latest figures show.

Data released by the government showed that, in the 24 hours leading up to 4pm on Wednesday May 5, five cases were confirmed in both the BCP Council area and Dorset Council area.

It means that the total number of cases reported since the start of the pandemic across both local authority areas is 25,375 and 11,908 respectively.

In the seven days leading up to April 30, 62 cases were confirmed in BCP, giving a rolling infection rate of 15.7 per 100,000 people.

The rolling rate in the Dorset Council area was nine after 34 cases were confirmed in a week.

Elsewhere, two new cases was confirmed in the New Forest, taking the total to 6,200.

The rolling rate stood at 10 after 18 cases were confirmed in the week preceding April 30.

Across the UK, 2,144 new cases of the Covid-19 virus were reported, taking the total number of positive cases in the UK to 4,425,940.
