ARE you wondering when the weather will start to warm up and it'll feel like summer? We've spoken to the experts to find out.

As we approach the second week of May you'd be forgiven for expecting sunny days and warm nights, but unfortunately that just isn't the case.

With a chilly April and stormy bank holiday weekend behind us, the weather is continuing to look grey and miserable for the foreseeable.

Weather expert and forecaster Dorset Sun said: "The same theme that we saw in April has continued during the first few days of May.

"Temperatures have generally been 3-5c below average and we have even seen graupel fall in some of the heavier showers.

"This certainly is unusual for May and the relentless high pressure across Greenland has been the main contributor to the cold conditions we are experiencing.

"April went down as the frostiest on record and May is currently looking like it could be another below average month, temperatures wise."

Bournemouth Echo:

Saturday will see heavy rain all day (PA)

Last year the weather at this point was warm and sunny with many of us sunbathing and making the most of the heat - but this year it is starkly different.

Local forecaster Bournemouth and Poole Weather said:"By now we should regularly be seeing temperature hitting 16-20C.

"However it’s not likely that we will get there until the second half of May as the overall upper atmospheric pattern remains blocked."

Forecast for the week ahead:

Today's outlook is cold and unsettled with scattered showers and storms across the region, a trope which persists right into the weekend.

Dorset Sun said: "The next 7 days continue to look mostly unsettled and chilly, although we should get a decent amount of sunshine on Thursday afternoon and Friday.

"Saturday looks like a washout with up to 25mm of rain set to fall.

"The general outlook continues to look chilly and unsettled out to mid month, although a recovery of temperatures is likely through the second half of May."

Bournemouth Echo:

Met Office weather forecast for the next week.

Bournemouth and Poole Weather said: "After a cool and showery Thursday and Friday a more unsettled spell comes through on Saturday, despite a milder air  mass, a lengthy spell of heavy rain with gusty winds looks likely through most of Saturday daytime, temperatures struggling to get past 13-14c.

"The low pressure for Saturday then struggles to move very far into next week keeping things cool and showery for the foreseeable future."
