AN ARSON investigation has been launched by police after emergency services were called to a vacant unit on an industrial estate in East Dorset.

Police and fire crews attended Ebblake Industrial Estate in Verwood at around 5.45pm on Tuesday, April 27.

It was reported that people had been seen entering the disused unit and a short time later smoke was seen after a fire had been started inside the building.

Following a 999 call by a member of the public, firefighters were on the scene quickly and had the blaze extinguished without large amounts of damage.

Police found a small dark Valentino bag, a lighter, some loose change and a packet of crisps at the scene, which officers believe were items left behind by the arsonists.

A spokesperson for East Dorset Police said: "We are following up lines of enquiry to establish the circumstances of this fire and identify the persons responsible."

Anyone with information about the incident or who the items belong to, should call 101 or contact police online at dorset.police.uk/doitonline, quoting reference number 55210066145.
